The Growing Communities Initiative provided $40,000 in grants to neighborhood revitalization efforts in Central Falls, Pawtucket
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – This week, Citizens Bank announced it invested $40,000 in grants as part of its Growing Communities initiative in Central Falls and Pawtucket. Growing Communities is part of Citizens Helping Citizens Strengthen Communities, the bank’s program to help contribute to the economic vitality of its communities. The Growing Communities initiative is designed to foster neighborhood revitalization and economic development activities across Rhode Island.
Through the Growing Communities initiative, Citizens Bank partnered with the Rhode Island Local Initiative Support Corporation (LISC) to award $40,000 in grants to nine different organizations, ranging from $1,000 to $6,000. The initiative will fund projects that contribute to the resiliency of Central Falls and Pawtucket by fostering neighborhood growth and supporting local economic activity.
“We have seen great progress in neighborhood revitalization and economic development in Pawtucket and Central Falls through our Growing Communities partnership with LISC,” said Barbara Cottam, Rhode Island Market Executive, Citizens Bank. “Through this initiative, our partners have created new green spaces, provided workforce and training opportunities and made sure that children arrived at school safely and on time. We are proud to play a part in all the good work taking place in these two communities.”
“We are pleased to continue our partnership with Citizens Bank on the Growing Communities initiative. Phase 5 will allow the program to expand and strengthen the impact in Central Falls and Pawtucket,” said Jeanne Cola, Executive Director of LISC Rhode Island. “For our community development partners, this fund provides critical funding for growth and capacity building, and allows the organizations to do crucial work in this area.”
Growing Communities is designed to promote and invest in neighborhood revitalization based on the existing assets of a community. These investments may support small business, workforce development and job creation and to make an area more livable, including façade and block beautification, park clean-ups, public art enhancements, access to local farm systems and nutritious food, and providing financial education and health information resources. The initiative was originally launched by Citizens in Cleveland, Ohio, in 2010.
