LISC’s new ‘Bridges to Career Opportunities’ helps to address education and skills gaps
LISC RI has awarded the Genesis Center $412,575 over the next 36 months to implement LISC’s Bridges to Career Opportunities (BCO), part of a recent $11.3 million grant received from the Corporation for National and Community Service’s Social Innovation Fund. The Rhode Island Foundation played an integral role in bringing this initiative to the state by providing LISC RI with $50,000 in required private matching funds, which enabled the grant to the Genesis Center to be made.
Built on the integrated service delivery platform of LISC’s Financial Opportunity Centers BCO prepares low income, low skilled workers for advancement along career pathways. In addition to the integrated FOC services, BCO provides participants with comprehensive, career-focused services that include education in reading, math and English as a Second Language and job readiness training contextualized to specific industry sectors, followed by vocational training and credentialing in high-demand occupations.
